Wiki

An illustrative play ship for children right in the heart of Cologne's Rheinauhafen harbour. In front the swimming whale, whose fluke forms a seesaw. The play ship WIKI was inaugurated in the summer of 2017 in Cologne. Thematically and architecturally integrated into the modern harbour district of Cologne, the ship is a new attraction for young and old. The playground stands out illustratively and slightly and contributes to the liveliness of the Rheinauhafen. The children love it and the parents quickly follow their curiosity. Embedded in Elisabeth Treskow Square and surrounded by the quay wall, the nearby cafés and the Rhine panorama, this is a wonderful place to linger.

Philipp Dreber won the competition for the realisation of the playground equipment. He developed the ship in cooperation with Fröbel Metallbau with great attention to detail and great emphasis on sustainability. The Dekra, the harbour and the city of Cologne were included. It should meet the special requirements of the flood protection area and the standards for playgrounds. A new urban icon was created. All edges of the steel ship were round and cuddly. A special coating with anti-graffiti protection, the fall protection floor made of recycled, coloured rubber tyres.
In summer 2017 the installation and TÜV approval took place. Since then, the enchanting ship has adorned the Rheinauhafen and has been warmly welcomed by children and citizens alike.

We have noticed how much fun it is to develop extraordinary play equipment and how much fun it leaves behind. We already have new ideas and wish to realize more projects. Maybe a rocket with a tunnel slide or the longest seesaw in the world.
